Belladonna
An inquiry into the requirement for beauty, even at the risk of death.
Belladonna features abrasive material upon thin layers of paint, representing an erosive, but also penetrating and formative aspect of the nature of beauty and it's affect on the body (physical) and on the mind (metaphysical). As this material cuts through, an inherent light shines forth from beyond the wound.

El Barrio Antigua
Private commission. The owner was seeking a contemporary piece for a new location. I drew from the color and vibrancy of their flagship space, which features an amazing skylight that reflects upon their extensive agave spirit bottle collection, casting beautiful waves of light throughout the room. Their bottles, crafted by artisans, are works of art in themselves. As they were expanding their business, I wanted to lift and carry the color and light into a new setting.
El Barrio Antigua, Old Town, is situated somewhere amongst the backdrop of the Empire State.

Yucataneca
Private commission. I once listened to a vivid story about a trip to Yucatan. I've grown accustomed to traveling through stories, and as the tale unfolded I saw these colors and markings in my mind's eye.
I found myself researching the landscape of Yucatan when I came to paint this piece. I discovered the beautiful Cenotes of the Yucatan peninsula, with their stunning greens and limestone textures, and recalled the colors and markings I saw when listening to a story years before.
Yucataneca celebrates the spirit of the Cenotes.

Jimador in the City
Private commission. Composed after having learned a little about the tradition and craft of agave farming. These farmers, these Jimadors, work with the land, often in challenging conditions, to capture the essence of agave and bottle it in unique expressions.
Jimador in the City shows a farmer, in his hat, backed by other Jimadors and with a bat as his guide, traveling to the city to showcase his labor of love.
